Gaim 2.0 and stuff…

So, I decided to check out Gaim 2.0 from cvs, and of course, being the person that I am, I have to have Portage control the installation and removal of files for me, so I created an ebuild. My ebuilds are all located at My Devspace so if anyone wants to check it out, its under steev, and then the typical Portage area for it. Other than that, not much is new, closed a few bugs assigned to gentopia, and looked into apmd to get the version bump going, just need to get ia64 keyword into powermgmt-base.

rt2x00/rt2570

Well, after working with the rt2570 driver for a while, I must say, im not particularly fond of it – it is rather tempermental at the moment. Sometimes it is just fine, works like a champ, but other times it does nothing except lock my system up. It seems to be related to the pre-empt kernel option, but I am just not willing to give up that option. So I have started playing with the rt2x00 beta and attempting to get it working. Currently, I can unplug and plug in the device just fine, but compilation gives a lot of unknown symbol warnings, and once the module is loaded, my syslog is spammed with a lot of invalid packets, deauth from ap, skb < 10 type of messages. Will be continuing to work with this, as it does appear to be quite nice. I really like this wifi card, I just wish it were a little smaller.

New wireless card…

So, I got a Belkin 802.11g 54MB usb wireless card. It cost me around 40 dollars US. Attempting to use ndiswrapper, and it would lock up. So I searched the net, saw about driverloader, and said screw this. I don’t want to use the windows drivers. So, I noticed that a forum post said rt2500, so i figured I would take a look at rt2500. Well, that didn’t work, so I checked out the website, and what did appear on the site!? rt2570! Not sure on all of the specifics just yet – I am still working on the ebuild, but it will hopefully be in Portage tonight.

Guess who's back!

So, internet connections in the apartment are working again, so yay. Expect more work out of me now. 2935 emails to go through though. Ugh.
